What to do?

Thursday, October 19, 2006

Well I suppose there's a first time for everything and although that's not the first time there's been an altercation on the park, it's definitely the first time we've ever had anyone leave the field of play, let alone two! Anyway, Craigo and Foxy are big boys now so I'm sure they can sort themselves out.

A related matter that has arisen is what to do with points and so on. Jon emailed me this:
  • Firstly, it was unfortunate that last nights game was marred by a minor disagreement. I hope the involved persons can resolve matters.
  • Secondly, well done to those who stayed on for the full hour.
  • Thirdly, I think the game should be null and void because the loss of a Foxy does not equate to a loss of Craigo (no disrespect intended). Even the FFF weighting show this.
  • For the blues who wish to use the points then that is cool, provided the whites who remained are not punished for something they had no involvement in i.e. just say all of the whites didn't play and therefore their points tallies aren't affected.

It's nearing the end of the season and it's all still to play for so I understand why Jon doesn't want the season's result to be marred by some dodgy incident. I'd appreciate all thoughts on what should be done with the points from last night. Either leave a comment if you wish or just email me if it would rather it wasn't out in the public domain.

As it now seems *unlikely* that I'm going to win the points table this year (*ahem*), it doesn't really matter to me personally whether points are counted for last night's game or not.

What I will say is, when we continued playing last night it didn't feel as if we were playing competitively, and even if we had been, my heart wasn't in it. Last night's events had a bigger effect than the unbalancing of the sides by losing player A versus player B, it just disheartened us all.

For this reason, my gut feeling is that the game should be voided in terms of stats.

Gordo, who doesn't have a Blogger account says he agrees with Neil.

Ponto has a thought too. He says:

"I think that you should award every one who played 1 or even 3 point's for playing on otherwise there is no punishment for the 2 players who walked off"

Thanks for the banter
